10x Banking Predicts 2025 Core Banking Trends Driven by Generative AI

Core banking vendor 10x Banking has published its 2025 trends report, identifying generative AI as the critical enabler for banks seeking to overcome legacy system constraints and accelerate core banking modernisation.

The report argues that generative AI will fundamentally change how core banking migrations are planned and executed, reducing the time, cost, and risk associated with moving from legacy platforms to modern, cloud-native systems. 10x Banking said AI tools can automate code analysis, data mapping, and testing processes that have traditionally made core migrations multi-year, high-risk projects.

The vendor identified overcoming legacy system constraints as the defining challenge for banks in 2025. Despite years of investment in digital channels and customer-facing technology, many banks continue to run critical operations on core systems that are decades old. These legacy platforms limit product innovation, increase operational risk, and consume disproportionate technology budgets for maintenance.

10x Banking's report highlighted the tension between the urgency of modernisation and the risk of migration. Banks that delay core replacements face growing competitive disadvantage, while those that proceed face complex implementation programmes. Generative AI is positioned as the technology that could break this impasse by making migrations faster and less disruptive.

The trends report also identified composable banking architecture, real-time processing, and embedded finance as key themes for 2025. These capabilities all depend on modern core banking infrastructure, reinforcing the report's central argument that core modernisation remains the prerequisite for broader digital transformation in banking.
