Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank's Digital Factory has integrated GitHub Copilot for Business, deploying the AI-powered coding assistant across its development teams to accelerate the delivery of digital banking products.
The generative AI tool, built on large language models, assists ADIB's developers by suggesting code completions, generating boilerplate functions, and automating repetitive programming tasks. According to the bank, the implementation is expected to streamline IT workflows and improve productivity across its software engineering operations.
ADIB's Digital Factory, established as the bank's dedicated technology innovation hub, has been central to its digital transformation strategy. The unit is responsible for building and maintaining the bank's mobile banking app, online services, and internal systems. Integrating AI-assisted development tools represents the latest step in the factory's efforts to shorten development cycles.
The adoption of Copilot for Business places ADIB among a small but growing number of financial institutions in the Gulf that are embedding generative AI directly into their technology operations, moving beyond pilot programmes into production use. Most banks in the region have focused AI investments on customer-facing applications such as chatbots and fraud detection, making ADIB's developer-focused deployment a notable departure.
GitHub Copilot for Business offers enterprise-grade security controls and intellectual property protections that have made it more palatable for regulated industries, including banking, where code security and data privacy requirements are stringent.
