Adyen has expanded its direct payment processing capabilities to India and simultaneously launched a new technology hub in the country, deepening its presence in one of the world's fastest-growing digital payments markets.
The expansion enables Indian merchants to access Adyen's full suite of payment solutions, including support for local payment methods such as UPI, net banking, and domestic card networks, without routing transactions through third-party processors. Direct processing gives merchants greater control over their payment flows and typically results in higher authorisation rates and lower costs.
The new technology hub will serve as a product development and engineering centre, contributing to Adyen's global platform while building expertise in India-specific payment requirements. The hub adds to Adyen's existing engineering centres in Amsterdam, Chicago, and other locations.
India's digital payments market has experienced extraordinary growth, driven by the widespread adoption of UPI, the government-backed instant payment system that now processes billions of transactions monthly. For Adyen, which has built its business serving large enterprise merchants globally, India represents both a significant growth opportunity and a technically complex market with unique payment infrastructure.
The company said the expansion supports its existing global clients operating in India while also enabling it to serve Indian businesses directly. Major Adyen clients across e-commerce, travel, and technology sectors have operations in India and have been requesting local processing capabilities.
Adyen processes payments for some of the world's largest companies and reported strong revenue growth in 2024, with international expansion continuing to drive new merchant acquisition.
