BankDhofar Selects Entrust for Digital Card Capabilities

BankDhofar has partnered with Entrust to deploy digital card issuance and Tap to Pay capabilities, enhancing its Dhofar-Pay mobile payment solution in Oman.

The integration enables BankDhofar to issue digital cards directly within its mobile banking app, allowing customers to begin making contactless payments immediately without waiting for a physical card to arrive. The Entrust platform supports secure, tokenised card provisioning that meets international payment security standards.

The partnership builds on BankDhofar's earlier launch of Dhofar-Pay, its NFC-based mobile payment service. By adding Entrust's digital card capabilities, the bank can now offer a more comprehensive digital payment experience, including instant card issuance for new customers and digital replacements for lost or expired cards.

Entrust, a global provider of identity and security solutions, supplies digital card platforms to financial institutions across the Middle East and globally. The company's technology handles the secure generation, storage, and management of digital card credentials within mobile banking apps.

For BankDhofar, the Entrust deployment supports its broader strategy of reducing dependency on physical card distribution while improving the customer experience. Digital-first card issuance reduces costs associated with card production and delivery while giving customers immediate access to payment capabilities.

Oman's mobile payment ecosystem has been developing rapidly, with multiple banks and digital wallets launching NFC payment services during 2024. BankDhofar's continued investment in its digital payment infrastructure positions the bank to compete effectively as consumer expectations for mobile-first banking services rise across the Sultanate.
