Emirates NBD has announced a strategic partnership with McKinsey to accelerate its transformation into an AI and advanced-analytics-driven bank.
The collaboration aims to embed artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities across Emirates NBD's operations, from customer-facing services to risk management and back-office processes. McKinsey's role encompasses strategy development, capability building, and the identification of high-value use cases where AI can deliver measurable business impact.
Emirates NBD said the partnership will focus on identifying new growth opportunities through data-driven insights, expanding the bank's technology talent pool, and building the organisational capabilities needed to sustain AI adoption at scale. The initiative is designed to move beyond isolated AI pilots toward systematic deployment across the bank's operations.
The McKinsey partnership reflects a growing trend among major banks of engaging consulting firms to guide enterprise-wide AI transformation rather than pursuing AI projects on a piecemeal basis. The challenge for large banks is not typically a lack of AI tools but rather the organisational change management, data infrastructure, and talent development needed to deploy AI effectively across thousands of employees and hundreds of processes.
Emirates NBD has already made several AI-related investments in 2024, including partnerships with Silent Eight for compliance automation and Nium for cross-border payments. The McKinsey engagement provides a strategic framework for coordinating these and future AI initiatives into a coherent transformation programme.
As the UAE's largest bank, Emirates NBD's AI investments are likely to influence technology adoption across the broader Gulf banking sector.
