Excellence in Banking

Sustainability in banking often means green bonds and ESG reports. Gulf Bank has taken a different approach - one that's more creative and arguably more visible. In partnership with local enterprise IBRAH, Gulf Bank launched an initiative to recycle its outdoor advertising materials into reusable tote bags, distributed to the community.

It's a small initiative in absolute terms, but it caught our attention for three reasons. First, it addresses the waste problem of large-format advertising that every bank generates but few think about. Second, it creates a tangible, physical output that customers can see and use - far more engaging than a page in an annual report. Third, it supports a local Kuwaiti enterprise, adding a social dimension to the environmental one.

Gulf Bank has been on a broader transformation journey in 2024, including winning four Global Finance awards for digital excellence and progressing its transition to a Shariah-compliant institution. The sustainability initiative is a small but telling indicator of a bank that's thinking holistically about its role in the community.

Congratulations to Gulf Bank on this creative and commendable initiative.
