Ithmaar Bank has launched a fully digital onboarding service for corporate clients and SMEs, enabling businesses to open accounts without visiting a physical branch.
The solution integrates with the Islamic retail bank's existing e-banking platform, providing a seamless digital journey from initial application to account activation. Corporate clients can submit required documentation, complete identity verification, and finalise account opening entirely through digital channels.
The launch addresses a persistent pain point in corporate banking, where account opening has traditionally required multiple branch visits, extensive paperwork, and lengthy processing times. For SMEs in particular, the friction of corporate account opening has been a significant barrier, often taking weeks to complete through conventional channels.
Ithmaar Bank said the digital onboarding service maintains full compliance with Bahrain's regulatory requirements for corporate know-your-customer verification and anti-money laundering checks. The system automates document verification and risk assessment processes while preserving the audit trails required by the Central Bank of Bahrain.
As one of Bahrain's leading Islamic retail banks, Ithmaar's digital onboarding service is designed to accommodate the specific requirements of Sharia-compliant banking products, ensuring that the digital journey reflects the bank's Islamic banking principles from the point of first engagement.
The launch aligns with Bahrain's broader push toward digital financial services, including its mandatory digital payment acceptance regulation and comprehensive open banking framework. Ithmaar's investment in corporate digital onboarding positions it to compete for business customers who increasingly expect digital-first banking experiences.
