Kuwait's Boubyan Bank Taps Temenos to Modernise Core Banking Systems

Boubyan Bank, Kuwait's second-largest Islamic bank, has selected Temenos to modernise its retail, corporate, and private banking platforms, replacing legacy systems with a cloud-native core banking solution.

The migration to Temenos's platform aims to enhance business agility, improve operational efficiency, and enable Boubyan Bank to deliver more personalised banking experiences across its customer segments. The new system will support the bank's full range of Sharia-compliant products and services while providing the scalability needed to support future growth.

Boubyan Bank said the Temenos platform will allow it to launch new products and services faster, respond more quickly to market changes, and reduce the technology maintenance burden associated with its existing systems. The bank has been growing rapidly and needed a core platform that could scale with its business ambitions.

The deal represents a significant win for Temenos in the Gulf market, where it competes with Oracle, Infosys Finacle, and other core banking vendors for large bank contracts. Temenos has been positioning its cloud-native platform as particularly suited to Islamic banks, which require specialised capabilities for profit-sharing structures, Murabaha financing, and other Sharia-compliant product configurations.

Kuwait's banking sector has been investing in technology modernisation as institutions seek to meet growing customer expectations for digital services. Boubyan Bank has already established a reputation for digital innovation among Kuwaiti banks, and the Temenos migration is expected to strengthen its competitive position further.

The implementation will proceed in phases across the bank's business lines.
