Mashreq has expanded its partnership with Oracle by selecting Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer to support its database workloads, adding cloud database capabilities to the bank's already extensive Oracle technology estate.
Exadata Cloud@Customer deploys Oracle's cloud database infrastructure within Mashreq's own data centres, combining the performance and automation benefits of cloud technology with the data residency controls required by banking regulations. The solution allows Mashreq to keep sensitive data on premises while accessing the same management tools and scalability features available on Oracle's public cloud.
The deployment supports Mashreq's international expansion strategy by providing a scalable database platform that can accommodate growing transaction volumes across the bank's operations in multiple countries. As the bank rolls out Oracle Flexcube core banking across its global offices, the Exadata infrastructure provides the underlying database performance needed to support real-time banking operations.
Data residency has been a persistent challenge for Gulf banks pursuing cloud adoption. Regulators in the UAE and other markets require that certain categories of financial data remain within national borders, creating a tension between the efficiency benefits of public cloud and the compliance requirements of banking supervision. Oracle's Cloud@Customer model addresses this by bringing cloud capabilities to the bank's own infrastructure.
The expanded Oracle partnership reinforces Mashreq's position as one of the most technology-forward banks in the UAE, with significant investments across core banking, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise applications all running on Oracle platforms.
