Mastercard has completed the world's first live agentic payment transaction in Dubai, partnering with Majid Al Futtaim to demonstrate AI agents executing real commercial purchases on behalf of consumers.
The pilot enabled users to complete transactions, including cinema bookings at VOX Cinemas, through an AI agent that handled the entire purchase process from product selection to payment execution. The agent interacted with Mastercard's Agent Pay infrastructure to authenticate and process the payment securely.
The live transaction moves agentic payments from concept to reality, demonstrating that AI agents can securely interact with payment networks to complete commercial transactions in production environments. The pilot validated the technical integration between AI agent systems and Mastercard's tokenisation, authentication, and fraud prevention infrastructure.
Majid Al Futtaim, one of the largest retail and entertainment conglomerates in the Middle East, provided the merchant environment for the pilot. The company's VOX Cinemas brand offered a controlled, high-frequency transaction environment suitable for testing agentic payment flows.
The UAE's selection as the market for the world's first live agentic payment reinforces the country's position as a testbed for payment innovation. Mastercard has consistently used the UAE as a launch market for new payment technologies, including its Payment Passkey Service and Click to Pay with Passkey.
Mastercard said the successful pilot will inform the broader rollout of Agent Pay capabilities across additional merchants and markets.
