Ooredoo Fintech International has announced walletii, a digital wallet and mobile financial services app for the Omani market, featuring cross-border remittance capabilities alongside everyday payment tools.
The app is being positioned as the first mobile money application in Oman to combine domestic payment services with an integrated international remittance feature. Users can send money abroad directly from the app, targeting the substantial expatriate population in Oman that currently relies on traditional money transfer operators and bank branches for cross-border transfers.
Walletii is available to all residents of Oman regardless of their mobile network provider, a decision that broadens the app's addressable market beyond Ooredoo's own subscriber base. The platform supports bill payments, merchant transactions, and peer-to-peer transfers in addition to its remittance capabilities.
Ooredoo Fintech International, a subsidiary of the Ooredoo Group, has been developing mobile financial services across its operating markets in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. The Oman launch leverages the group's existing telecommunications infrastructure and customer relationships to distribute financial services to populations that may be underserved by traditional banking channels.
The app is regulated by the Central Bank of Oman, which has been encouraging digital payment innovation as part of the Sultanate's economic modernisation agenda. Oman's payments market has been gradually shifting away from cash dependency, with mobile payment adoption expected to accelerate as more services become available.
The official public launch of walletii followed in December 2024, positioning it as a key player in Oman's developing digital payments ecosystem.
