PayPal has launched PayPal Everywhere, an omnichannel initiative that integrates its debit card with Apple Wallet to enable in-store contactless payments at millions of US merchants.

The service transforms PayPal from a primarily online payment tool into a comprehensive everyday spending solution. Customers can add their PayPal debit card to Apple Wallet and use it for tap-to-pay purchases at physical stores, alongside its existing use for online and in-app payments.

PayPal Everywhere includes an enhanced rewards programme offering 5% cash back on a customer-selected spending category, rotating monthly. The incentive is designed to drive adoption of the debit card for routine spending, building daily engagement with the PayPal ecosystem rather than limiting use to occasional online purchases.

The launch was accompanied by a high-profile marketing campaign fronted by comedian Will Ferrell, representing PayPal's most significant US consumer marketing push in recent years. The campaign's scale signals the company's strategic commitment to expanding its presence at the physical point of sale.

PayPal has historically derived the vast majority of its transaction volume from online commerce. The move into in-store payments addresses the reality that physical retail still accounts for the majority of consumer spending, representing a massive addressable market that PayPal has largely not captured.

The Apple Wallet integration is particularly significant, as it gives PayPal access to the contactless payment infrastructure already installed at millions of merchants, without requiring separate merchant adoption or terminal upgrades.
