In July 2024, Riyad Bank launched the Center of Intelligence (COI) - the first specialised AI centre in the Saudi banking sector. This is not a rebranded IT department. It's a dedicated facility designed to harness advanced analytics and machine learning across the bank's operations.
What sets Riyad Bank apart from peers in this space is the decision to create a standalone centre rather than embedding AI capabilities within existing technology teams. This structural choice signals a level of commitment that goes beyond pilot projects and innovation labs. It gives AI a seat at the table.
We have been monitoring Riyad Bank's progress in this area, and the COI launch aligns with a broader digital transformation that included a complete overhaul of their mobile banking app in 2024.
