Visa Opens New Innovation Center in Riyadh to Power Saudi Arabia's Digital Payments Growth

Visa has opened a new Innovation Center and regional office at the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, marking a significant investment in Saudi Arabia's digital payments ecosystem on the occasion of the company's 40th anniversary in the Kingdom.

The centre is designed as a collaborative platform where Visa works alongside local banks, fintechs, government entities, and merchants to co-create next-generation payment technologies. The facility provides access to Visa's global technology capabilities and expertise, enabling Saudi partners to develop and test payment innovations tailored to the local market.

Visa's choice of the King Abdullah Financial District, Saudi Arabia's dedicated financial hub, signals the company's alignment with the Kingdom's Financial Sector Development Programme, one of the key pillars of Vision 2030. The programme targets the growth of Saudi Arabia's financial services sector through regulatory modernisation, digital infrastructure investment, and the attraction of international financial institutions.

The Innovation Center will focus on areas including tokenisation, biometric payments, real-time processing, and embedded finance capabilities that support the Kingdom's cashless payment objectives. Visa said the facility will also serve as a talent development resource, helping to build local expertise in payment technology.

Saudi Arabia's digital payments market has been growing rapidly, with the government reporting significant progress toward its target of 70% non-cash transactions. The proliferation of digital wallets, contactless payments, and e-commerce has created demand for the kind of innovation infrastructure that Visa's centre is designed to provide.

The Riyadh centre joins Visa's global network of innovation facilities in cities including San Francisco, London, Dubai, and Singapore.
