Western Union to Acquire Intermex for 500 Million Dollars

Western Union has agreed to acquire Intermex, the money transfer company, for approximately $500 million. The acquisition strengthens Western Union's position in the US-to-Latin America remittance corridor, one of the world's largest cross-border payment flows.

Intermex specialises in remittances from the United States to Latin America and the Caribbean, serving a large diaspora population that regularly sends money to family and friends in the region. The company's strong agent network and brand recognition in the corridor make it an attractive acquisition target.

The deal reflects the ongoing consolidation in the remittance industry, where scale and corridor coverage are increasingly important competitive advantages. Western Union's acquisition of Intermex bolsters its Latin American operations at a time when digital remittance competitors are growing rapidly.
