UAE digital bank Zand has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alibaba Cloud and Ant Digital Technologies to accelerate the adoption of generative AI, blockchain, and payment technology in its operations.
The partnership brings together Zand's licensed digital banking platform with Alibaba Cloud's infrastructure and AI capabilities, alongside Ant Digital Technologies' expertise in digital payment and blockchain systems. The collaboration aims to build next-generation digital banking infrastructure that leverages Chinese technology innovation for the UAE market.
Zand said the partnership will focus on deploying generative AI to improve customer experiences, automate operational processes, and develop new financial products. The bank will use Alibaba Cloud's AI platform and computing infrastructure to train and deploy models tailored to its banking operations.
The blockchain dimension of the partnership connects to Zand's earlier strategic move into digital assets through its partnership with Swiss firm Taurus. Ant Digital Technologies' blockchain expertise adds another layer of capability to Zand's digital asset and tokenisation strategy.
The MoU reflects the growing technology ties between UAE financial institutions and Chinese technology companies. Alibaba Cloud has been expanding its Middle Eastern presence, establishing data centres in the region and building partnerships with local businesses. For Zand, the partnership provides access to technology capabilities developed for the massive scale of Chinese digital finance.
Zand has been assembling an ambitious roster of technology partners since its launch, positioning itself as one of the most technology-forward banks in the UAE market.
