Revolut to Open First Physical Store in Barcelona as Spanish Push Accelerates
Revolut is taking its first step into bricks-and-mortar retail, confirming plans to open a permanent physical store in Barcelona as part of a broader push into Spain and Catalonia.
The London-headquartered neobank, valued as Europe's most valuable startup, told Euronews it has chosen Barcelona to pilot its first physical store. The space, located in the city centre near Plaça Catalunya, is expected to open at the end of 2026 or the start of 2027 and will be comparable in scale and design to an Apple Store.
"We chose Barcelona as the place to pilot our physical stores because it combines local density, global relevance, tourism and innovation," a Revolut spokesperson said.
The company has been clear that the new outlet is not a traditional bank branch. Instead, Revolut is positioning it as a "high-visibility, immersive space" designed for direct consumer engagement and brand experiences, where more than 20 staff will advise customers on services and contracting.
Catalonia push
The store sits within a wider commitment to Catalonia. Revolut has confirmed it will roll out Catalan language support across its ATMs, website and app, with Catalan set as the default language on its Catalan ATM network at the request of the Generalitat's Language Policy Department. The website and app are expected to launch in Catalan in the first half of 2027, serving the company's 1.2 million Catalan customers.
Revolut is also scaling its physical footprint in Spain in other ways. The company is expanding its ATM network in the country to as many as 200 machines, and already operates card-printing kiosks at Barcelona's airport.
Hiring and offices
The retail move comes alongside a significant office expansion. Revolut will open a new Barcelona office on Passeig de Gràcia in summer 2026 and plans to hire 300 people in the region by 2028, taking its Catalan headcount to around 1,000. A new Madrid office is also planned by the end of 2026, with a target of 500 additional hires by 2028.
The Spanish expansion follows a strong year for the group. Revolut reported 2025 revenues up 46% to 5.2 billion euros, with pre-tax profit up 57% and its loan portfolio rising 120%. The company now serves around 70 million customers globally and is targeting 100 million by mid-2027.
